Secret Behind Your Network n Broadband IP.....???Every 1 Shud Kno..

The IP address shown on the website on the Internet is different from ur real IP address .This is due to Port Address Translation (PAT) and Network Address Translation (NAT)



The concept is simple..
I will explain you..

You have an IP address (real IP provided by your network.Let us call it Private IP address) and you use it to send a request packet to view a website.webpage.


Now I will tell you how the packet travels..

The packet goes to your gateway/router using the Private IP address..Then from there it changes its Ip and converts to an IP..lets say it Public IP address.Now if you access Internet,there,your Public IP will be shown and not Private IP address(For security reasons..ofcourse)



Now if you check ur Ip on www.tracemyip.com..then also it shows ur public IP address,for example: 122.xxx.xxx.xxx but ur actual IP would be some 172.xxx.xxx.xx, or something like that..



Hope you understood this concept.PAT actually means,assigning one particular Public IP to whole of a network.This service was started to save IP addresses,coz there are only 4.3 billion IPs in all.

By doing this the IP addresses are saved..if not using NAT,one public IP would have to be provided to every one Private IP..which would result in an unwanted loss of IPs...
